Hats off to Sachin

It is very rarely that we come across people in Public, who exhibit a clear stand of Standing up for their principles.  More than his batting credentials, this one act of Sachin declining the ad revenue that he would have got for endorsing a private liquor brand, will be something that would make youngsters to look up to HIM.  He has shown to his fan following is that Principles and  personal integrity is much higher than money.   This is what Subrato talks about in his book The Professional" May  God give more and more to Sachin, for this best thing that he has done.

Flying on the Clouds

Yes this person is definitely flying high  on the clouds - but his feet are firmly on the ground.  I am talking about none other than Suresh Sambandam, CEO of Orangescape which is offering Platform as a Service for the companies which want to go to the cloud.  Every time, I meet him or talk to him, I am amassed at the simplicity of this person while what he has achieved in life is of Himalayan proposition. His is a story worth talking about how Determination & hardwork can lift you High in life.   A person who admits that he wasnt even a college graduate, but was forced to get into Real Estate business along with his father when he was young, has made his company get featured amongst the likes of Amazon, google, Microsoft etc when it comes to Cloud offering.  What a way to go. I thought I was one of those few people for whom technology was daunting - but he also confesses that he was also afraid of technology initially, but got interested while he was learning typing during his

whats in a name

What's in a name. If you have little as part of your name, but in reality you turn out to be a Very Great person in life - the naming is a paradox isn't . I am going talk about Ms Virginia Littlejohn , the champion for women entrepreneurship - not only in her native land - the land of opportunities USA, but also globally. She now spends most of her time, in the most happening places or should I say countries China and India where she is currently engaged in launching the WE Connect program as part of the global supplier diversity program. Virginia Littlejohn is CEO and Co-Founder of Quantum Leaps, Inc., which shares women entrepreneurial best practices, and facilitates their access to markets. She is also Chairman of TradeBuilders , Inc., which provides virtual trade missions and online conferencing. Her primary focus for several decades has been advocacy on behalf of women entrepreneurs. Let me try to list down what all positions she had held since 1970 In the late 1

Breathing Quality is the way of life

I dont know what is this particular aspect about the Professionals in the Quality Arena. Most of them, I find, are so much into their profession that they breath, live, speak only Quality . One more aspect is that they just dont stop with only talking about Quality, but live for Evangelizing Quality and take upon themselves to go out and reach all the stakeholders in the society. Recently I had the privilege of meeting one such person - The passionate Quality Guru Srinivasan Desikan. While continuing his career with HP as Senior Systems Architect, he is also the Adjunct professor at several colleges/universities/institutions to promote Software Testing as a subject. I went in for Certification of all the QA resources in my company and thus came to know Srinivasan through this process. What a simple man for all his achievements. Not only does he practice, he has also coauthored the book Software Testing - Principles and Practices, which is one of the best sellers and is also be

The tale spinner

You don't need to be beware of this tale spinner - I am talking about Sheila Gandhi . she doesn't spin tales to make fools of people, but spins tales to enthral her young readers. Would you believe that the erstwhile Regional Director of NASSCOM Chennai, is a prolific writer and is a Winner of Children’s Book Trust award – Read Aloud Series. Pretty Amassing is int . Who would have believed it. From being an entrepreneur (having established a bookshop Nalanda in Sheraton) to becoming the Vice consul/Consular Officer with Australian Consulate and then to be the Senior Trade & Investment Adviser in British Dy High Commission and then subsequently establishing the Regional Directorate of Nasscom in Chennai to her current freelancing for "born to Win" Sheila has donned various hats and that too with distinction. The best thing that has I can say is that As a company head you come up some many questions and need answers quick, all you needed to do wa

This Snake couple is Harmless

Yes, I am going to write about a couple this time - the Seshans (it means snakes) Sumitra & Ananth Seshan . What a great people to get to know both personally and professionally. More so when they are both entrepreneurs and are running a successful software company " Fifth Generation Technologies". Dr Ananth Seshan , is the Chairman and Managing Director, and Sumitra Seshan is the COO of Fifth Generation Technologies India Ltd.– an engineering software product company that has a client base of Fortune 100 manufacturing clients worldwide (automotive, pharmaceutical and food and beverage industries). What a combination - Doctorate in Robotics & MBA in marketing - no wonder 5G is a great company in the Engineering Software product space. Their software, Enterprise Gateway is manufacturing business intelligence software product mainly targeted at the automotive market, that provides real time collaboration between the manufacturing shop floor and the enterprise in

The fire spitting Quality Gun

At last going away from `All women post`, here comes a write up about an MCP - No dont get me wrong - this is what he has written about himself in the ewit magazine - and it expands to Male Caring Professional ha ha ha.... I am going to talk about Swaminathan, Swami to all his friends Never one to mince his words and to speak out his mind is our great Swami, currently the lead for IDC Productivity Accenture India Development Center. You should hear him speak on Quality -literally leaves the others speechless when he expounds on his ideas and theories. I rightly agree with him that we should talk about a separate model that has evolved for Quality in India rather than just confine ourselves with the other frameworks like ISO, Six sigma, CMM, etc. His qualifications in terms of being a practicing professional of 20 years in the industry along with his CSQA and CISA certification apart from having been a Global CMMI consultant in the US, Europe and United Kingdom. He was also a Designat

A lady to look up at

Literally we need to look up at this lady. Sulochana Ganesan Her tallness is a contrast to her softness. But never one who is soft when it comes to Quality. A pioneer is lot of respects. One of the early entrants into the IT field. From what ever she has shared with me, I am literally speechless to hear about her father who thought that Computers are going to rule the world in the future and whoever hasn't had a initiation into computers are going to some kind of illiterates. No No... I am not talking about today's father - Look back at a man who thought like this in 1960s. What a man he is..... (No wonder the daughter of a man should be a very great person.) This person not only talked, but walked the talk by making his daughter to travel all the way to Delhi from Bihar to do a course on Autocoder programming in 1969. One of the two women in a class of 45 - . But she remarks - my course instructor was a woman. We talk about Ada, the first woman programmer , etc. Look at India,

Choices - this is what makes you what you are

The fittest Survive, even faced with a adverse situation. This is the absolute truth about the evolution theory. One more person to prove this time honoured cliche is R. Radikaa , the Chairman & Managing Director, Radaan Media Works India Ltd. This is what differentiates her from all other people in the Media world - She is a renowned Award winning Actress in our Indian Movie world. But the first woman to Corpartarize her company and make it a big banner is something which is awe inspiring . In a world where your individual talent alone makes you what you, To create a living entity and forging a separate path for you - and at the same time doing your personal professional acting(coming out great at it) - My God what a amassing personality who is forced to wear multiple hats. My admiration goes for the kind of portrayal she does of a Woman - not just the stereotyped always bearing every injustice with a smile, suffering within herself and trying to win over everybody with her g

A hardcore Techie becomes the soft mother once more!

Congrats my dear friend Vijayadevi for having delivered a baby boy just yesterday. I know your new bron will be born with all the goodness you possess. though dimunivtive in size, what a wonderful person is Vijayadevi - full of pleasant contradictions - a hard core technical person with a soft inner core. Her long stint in various corporates is filled with success stories. There is another side to this Techie - the ability to reach out to people, wanting to do good, All these make up to be a full human being. Basically, she is a soft person, However, her firmness in what she believes, is seen to be believed. One more accomplishment that she can be very proud of is her painting talent. It was by chance that I came to know her a couple of years ago, and our friendship has grown over these few years. Not that we get time to spend together, it is always a few hours here and there, but it is like you have found a good vibe and once that is done, it doesnt need much time and effort

A Tough Gentle lady

What a paradox in the title itself. this is what I feel about Vani Sukumar - a very tough lady with a gentle touch - which touches your inner core and fills you with all the good things. The toughness is what has made many a people to come to her to get the required mental strength and ability to go forward from their difficult situation. Her daughter a competent qualified professional says " I find it is so much more easier to say, "She is my mother" than "I am her daughter"..." when she talks about what her mother has been doing and does. Essentially Vani does work with people with special needs varying from Hyperactivity, Schizophrenia, Learning Disability, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, etc get into a 'normal' workplace. The Founding principles for Vani's Vidya Sagar is "If someone can take medication for diabetes, then why not for schizophrenia? If a lady can go on paid vacation for maternity, why cant a policy be derived for someo

The professor who donated his BMW

YES - it is unbelieve, but true. I have adopted this title from Robin Sharma's book The monk who sold his Ferrari - as the book talks of the spiritual experience, here is a living example of such a kind of person who is contented in life and is not afaird of giving, taking care of people and more than anything sharing his knowledge. One of my professors had bought a BMW and then donated it away. His life is a fine example of what happens to knowledge when it is given away, you only get more of it. He not only talks the talk, but walks it too. Coming to the Hero of this Post, I am talking about Prof V K Murti . Currently he teaches at SPJIMR, Great Lakes and does consulting to various "small companies" - apart from teaching Management to a group of young students aged about 15 years(this is done as a hobby) - A very simple man filled with lot of wisdom. Note here the usage of Wisdom - it is not just knowledge alone which is essential, but converting it into a hi

Personalities

What can Indians Do? This question when posed a couple of decades ago would have got an reply with such disdain that we Indians are useless compared to foreigers, etc. But now INDIA as a brand has a high value in almost all walks of life and in almost all countries of the world. This time I am going to write about Indians (whom I know) making difference in their sphere of activities - One such personalities is Himanshu Palsule ... What a Person - A high flying, down to earth person, going places in his mutli billion dollar organization. I am so so proud of him. He has now been elevated as Executive Vice President and handles all the important products of Sage North America. And you should listen to his talk - spell bound audiences are always the norm. All his GM key note sessions are always jam packed. While a thorough professional, he has the Indian roots of taking care of his people with such affection and always trying to help others. Himanshu I am very proud that I have

Little known personalities

This is going to be a series of write up about people who are not very famous that their name will be instantly recognized, but in their own ways are Exceptionally good. One such person is Badri, who runs a printing press. He has migrated to Chennai from Dindigul. He was doing some printing jobs for our organization like visiting cards, one time greeting cards, etc. He wanted to have an appointment with Ramani, the Managing Director of the company as he had some ideas. Ramani is one great person who encourages everybody to experiment, innovate and succeed - whoever it may be. So promptly, Ramani asked him to come home on a sunday, if it is ok with Badri, since both of us can be party to the discussion. To our surprise Badri had analsyed all our printing materials and came up with the kind of non standards that have crept into the visiting cards, letter heads. He even said, in a very soft manner that Sir your visitor pass that is being given out is the first window to your organizatgion
