 The source of Nile river at the Jinja Town also has another attraction for the visitors - The Statue of Father of our Nation Mahatma Gandhi The statue at the source of the Nile was an idea of the Indian community in Uganda in collaboration with the Indian government. It was unveiled on October 5, 1997 by His Excellency Inder Kumar Gujral, then Prime Minister of the republic of India. It has since been maintained by Bank of Baroda, Not only Indians but all nationals visit and psy homage to the great leader.

Jinja, Uganda The souce of River Nile

The 2nd day of the trip was to see the Beginning point of River Nile from Lake Victoria  at the place called Jinja.   Jinja is a city in the Eastern Region of Uganda, located on the North shores of Lake Victoria This town is about 84 kms from Kampala the capital of Uganda.  The drive to this place takes about 2.5 to 3 hours.  The road runs through sugarcane fields, tea plantations coffee plantations.  Some places looks like you are driving through coorg.  On the way there are lot of vendors selling fruits just like in highways in India.   Source of Nile river The White Nile leaves Lake Victoria at Ripon Falls near Jinja, Uganda, as the "Victoria Nile." It flows north for some 130 kilometers to Lake Kyoga. Kampala the Capital city of Uganda

We are beginning our 13 nigts East African tour from Kampala. Kampala is the capital city of Uganda and is mixture of skyscrapers and thatched houses.  When we were driving from the Entebee Airport it was like we were driving through any one of the north Indian towns or hill stations.  We could see furniture sofas vegetables fruits being  kept in the pavements for sale.   There were brick kilns and nurseries selling plants.  The vans were loaded with people.   From the airport we can see Lake Victoria which borders 3 countries Uganda Tanzania and Kenya.
