A beautiful poem written by a father to his daughter

I dont stand for the veracity of this poem which came as a part of the email that I receive everyday. But I felt touched the spirit of this poem and I am cut pasting it from the email body. I leave it to the readers choice to do what they want. (sorry I didnt do anything that the email wanted me to do it, as in this world "believing anything and everything" has become a casualty of our times. I also get different varieties of such mail. The last para lets you know the true intention of this blog psoting. TO MY CHILD Just for this morning, I am going to smile when I see your face and laugh when I feel like crying. Just for this morning, I will let you choose what you want to wear, and smile and say how perfect it is. Just for this morning, I am going to step over the laundry and pick you up and take you to the park to play. Just for this morning, I will leave the dishes in the sink, and let you teach me how to put that puzzle of yours together. Just for this afternoon, I

TV show

Today I have saw a TV show in Mega TV titled " Panchantra ". This is all about quizzing young children. I saw the show just 10- 15 mts before closing time. What stuck me most was that the 3 children that were there(Whether it was the final stage where all others were eliminated or the show originated with the 3 children - I dont know) were all well within 15 years and the confidence which which they choose the topic on which they wanted to answer was amazing. They have to take 5 questions in their chosen topic and if they get at least 3 right, then they set to win the prize. One chose the Ramayana Epic, the Second chose the "American Authors and 3rd chose the Mahabharata Epic. I was truly amassed at the topic American authors - I dont think, even today at this age of 47 and where I read all books and all authors, I can be confident, let alone attempt to answer. The questions that were put forth to these children were fairly medium range(not tough tho

A Tough Gentle lady

What a paradox in the title itself. this is what I feel about Vani Sukumar - a very tough lady with a gentle touch - which touches your inner core and fills you with all the good things. The toughness is what has made many a people to come to her to get the required mental strength and ability to go forward from their difficult situation. Her daughter a competent qualified professional says " I find it is so much more easier to say, "She is my mother" than "I am her daughter"..." when she talks about what her mother has been doing and does. Essentially Vani does work with people with special needs varying from Hyperactivity, Schizophrenia, Learning Disability, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, etc get into a 'normal' workplace. The Founding principles for Vani's Vidya Sagar is "If someone can take medication for diabetes, then why not for schizophrenia? If a lady can go on paid vacation for maternity, why cant a policy be derived for someo

The lady with a School

Like the Nightingale of the old world fighting for the patients, here is a lady who fights for the educational privilege of the underprivilged. Ms Nimmu Vasanth Kumar. What a way she has come through. But for her grit and determination, anybody else in her place would have folded up and gone the easy route, let alone think of doing any social service. One of the few enginnering Graduates way back in 1979, if only she had continued with her role in the Software Industry, we would be talking of her as one who would have broken the "Glass ceiling". But not a bed of roses did she want to tread on. Tending to a husband with ‘Paranoid Schizophrenia", she not only gave up on a great career and accomplishments, she chose to go way out to help her husband in the times of need. She went into the film making, which was her husband's field, thereby supporting her husband's recovery. My God what a struggle it would have been for the couple. Not only does she openly ta

the news item which disturbed me

Two days ago in Economic Times News paper I read an article about AP govt annoucning a scheme for christians to go to Israel on Pilgrimage. This is to be modelled on the lines of Haj Pilgrimage to Mecca. Here I dont even want to go into whether every Christian in the country wants to go to Israel or not. It is not per se the act that is causing me this anguish, but what the government is doing for one of the religions in the country. There are several religions in the country and if for each of them, the government is going to do a similar act like this, the only thing that will happen as soon as the new government is formed is to work on the strategy for conducting such tours to Kasi, Golden Temple, Budh Gaya, etc. What is happening in our country? Is this the right way to do the governing? Instead of concentrating on the upliftment of the society, why are we going into their religious practices? Is this what is meant by Secular state of India. For me, my religion stops just

The professor who donated his BMW

YES - it is unbelieve, but true. I have adopted this title from Robin Sharma's book The monk who sold his Ferrari - as the book talks of the spiritual experience, here is a living example of such a kind of person who is contented in life and is not afaird of giving, taking care of people and more than anything sharing his knowledge. One of my professors had bought a BMW and then donated it away. His life is a fine example of what happens to knowledge when it is given away, you only get more of it. He not only talks the talk, but walks it too. Coming to the Hero of this Post, I am talking about Prof V K Murti . Currently he teaches at SPJIMR, Great Lakes and does consulting to various "small companies" - apart from teaching Management to a group of young students aged about 15 years(this is done as a hobby) - A very simple man filled with lot of wisdom. Note here the usage of Wisdom - it is not just knowledge alone which is essential, but converting it into a hi

feeling happy

What does it take to make anyone feel happy Not loads of money, or not lotof great things, Just small simple things even make you happy I feel very happy and my face automatically lights up When I see a small kid - color, creed, caste, religion definetly no bar - when it smiles its innocent smile, the whole world turns to be very bright. When I see a dog frolicking around When I see on stage the coparticipants smile at one another sharing some private joke - it shows how much they are part of a team When I see a flower opening up its petal When I feel the rain falling down on me When I feel the wind on my face When I see a friend When I see a good deed done by any one Like this I can go on, it is not something is special about me, for every one all simple matters also make them feel happy, but they dont realise that, they think and feel that only big events or great things bring out happiness. I am blessed tobe born as what I am. I am thankful to the Lord for giving me all things I

Marina Beach

The Marina Beach , the pride of Chennai is the second longest beach in the world and has a wide sandy shore. You should come, see and enjoy its sandy beach in the evening to understand the beauty of it. Marina beach lies to the east of Chennai (Madras) at Kamarajar Road, 3 Km from the city centre. The fine sandy beach said to be the longest beach in India and one of the longest in Asia, extends to a length of 13 Km, from Fort St. George all the way to Mahabalipuram. There is a drive along the beach fringed with palms and casuarinas running the whole length of Chennai. In early 1880's, the natural beauty of the beach was enhanced by a facelift given by the then Governor Mountstuart Elphinstone Grant Duff. Some of the most beautiful buildings in Chennai such as the Fort St. George complex established by the East India company in 1641, University of Madras, Senate-House, Chepauk Palace (now P.W.D office), 19th century Presidency College building etc are located on the beach drive.
