Enthiran

So, a cancelled dinner appointment at the last minute and the desire to see my motherinlaw on screen, made us to go to the local movie theatre  at Toronto to watch Enthiran, the new blockbuster from Rajini - Shankar stable. Before I go to actual review of the movie, I just want to narrate the perfectionist streak of Shankar - which I had the fortune to see.  We were in the sets of Rajini, as my sister in law is doing small roles in movie and she had taken permission from the producer to bring over my mother in law and my husband to see Rajinikanth in the sets.  When we entered, it was the making of the betrothal scene in the movie.  Shankar, though such a famous man, was so humble and he took the blessings of my mother in law by touching her feet.  What a sight it was. For me it was unbelievable as I never expected that a very famous man would touch a feet of unknown elderly person in his workplace.  I was amassed at that itself.   This particular scene just comes in the movie for abo

Taare Zameen par

I am very emotional at this particular moment, after having seen the movie Taare Zameen Par - which literally means " the Stars in the Land ". This movie is all about children with dyslexia and how even the parents aren't in a position to understand them. My niece works in a school for such children and she used to share how these children are very normal and are always able to outperform the normal children, with some initial help in overcoming their learning shortcoming. This movie is a brilliant portrayal of such a thing. Every aspect about this film is so superb and fine - whether it is casting, or acting or direction, or the speed of the story play. No wonder it has won the top national awards. Both Aamir Khan who takes the hand as a teacher to understand the student's problem and tries to help him cope up and bring out the best in him, & Darsheel Safary who plays the 8 year old boy are fantastic. Also Walt Disney Company has bought the video righ

Outsourced - by John Jeffcoat

A movie title which will raise strong passions - whether it is negative or positive depends on which side you are in. Though it is titled as a comedy - it has a lot more emotions into it. the topic itself itself evokes strong emotions, if you have just lost your job. This movie is taken from the perspective of a American Call center Sales Person, who suddenly finds that his entire team is let go. To retain his job, he has to travel all the way to India and train those very people who have taken away his and his friends job. On this serious note, this story begins. But then it becomes how Todd (who is always called as Toad) played by John Hamilton comes over to India as a American who sees things only in a American way and later understands the locals and gets the best from the people. As a Indian, who has made her living as a outsourcing company from India, for me this movie was a must see. While I could appreciate the emotions behind the whole exercise when the outsourcing happens, th
While on travel, I saw this Hindi movie - under the section - motivational - Phir Melange meaning we will meet again. It really touched me to the core. the movie is about a young girl getting AIDS and how she is fighting for her survival in the society - to retain her job, etc. A very neat portrayal. As soon as the words AIDS is uttered, everybody thinks of amoral sex and the different connotations. the film is by Revathy and very nicely done. Heading an organization, if I come across such a news, what would be my reaction is the thought process I had because, her employer dismisses her because he feels that he cannot live with the thought of degradation in the morality. This film is a eye opener for me in the sense that it made me think of the other side and their reactions too. Probably I will be handling such a situation differently with more compassion is the conclusion I came to after seeing the movie. It also teaches how our thoughtless association leads to problems for ou

Chak de India

Chak de India - buckle up India WOW! What a film. This film really made me sit up and feel very very happy to see it. This is the best movie I have seen for a very very long time. It is all about Team work - how united we should be to achieve things you want to achieve in life. The entire crew, the filming, the theme presentation, the direction everything is so superb. There was never a dull moment, no way you could divert your attention away from the film. At the end, it was like you were part of the team of Women Hockey players who have won the world cup. I was wanting to stand up and clap my hands as if I was in the stadium witnessing the winning watch live. For once, this movie is without any romance, no duet, nothing vulgar, no double meaning talks, nothing to spoil the atmosphere. Sharuh Khan is superb and so are all the girls who are getting coached by him for the hockey world cup matches. The casting has been done very nicely indeed, with each girl fitting her role and her temp
