A temple built for the use of Pandavas during their stay in here

Image
My earlier blog post was about Arthanaeeswar temple in the small village called Arakkuparamba. There is a anther templei n the next village called mattarakal.   The Shiva Vishnu temple is  situated amongst  groves of banana araicanuts, coconuts etc. The villagers say that the Shiva lingam was built for the pandavas to offer their prayers.  This makes the temple also to be an ancient one dating back to Mahabharata times.   Of course the current temple premises is built only in the last century. I presume that the Vishnu was the later time addition for the benefit of the namboodhiris living here.   In this temple Vishnu is in the form of Vanana, who was supposed to be born in Kerala to conquer Mahaballi.   The beauty of this Diety in the  form of a small child is seen to be enjoyed.  Such a graceful and charm that it makes you rooted to the sannidhanam. The Siva lingam is of medium height and is on the west side of...

3000 year old arthaneeswar temple in kerala

Image
Had the great fortune to visit this small village called Arakkuparamba named after the arakku palace built for Pandavas in here.  This place is situated in the Peruthalmanna Taluk, Kerala close to the town called Karikalathani .   It is believed that the Famed Arakku palace was built here during the Mahabharatha times,   which was meant to kill the Pandavas.  When they came to know the nature of the palace made up of easily combustible material and the plot to set Kunti devi and the 5 brothers, escaped through an underground tunnel to safety.   The villagers say that even today we can find few stones that are here which can catch fire just like that which they say goes to prove the existence of pandavas in here.  (I didnt see them so cannot say anything about it) There is a small temple here in which there is a siva lingam which is split in the middle.   This temple is being reconstructed currently after a teacher found the remnants ...

Temples & Computerization - the best fit!!!

A very interesting article, which was circulated in our office.  So pardon me for not mentioning the source. How temples are becoming tech savvy PUNE/CHENNAI/HYDERABAD: Temples and religious institutions across Maharashtra , Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh are among the latest to join the tech-savvy tribe, as they seek to automate and integrate complex processes by deploying sophisticated solutions like enterprise resource planning.A growing number of devotees expecting quicker religious services and the pressure to become more transparent are key drivers for these temples to seek the help of business software solutions, used traditionally by large corporates like Bajaj Auto, ONGC and Maruti Suzuki. Temples have evolved into a service industry; expectations of devotees have increased,” says Kishor More, CEO of Shree Saibaba Sansthan Trust at Shirdi in Maharashtra. A data centre will come up inside the temple campus and first modules of the popular ERP software will go live lat...

Marundeeshwarar temple, Thiruvanmiyur

Here I come with one more temple from Chennai, especially from my locality. One of the famous Lord Shiva temples, it is an ancient temple, which is famous for the cure of diseases. The name of the Lord Shiva - Marundeeshwarar means that He is the Supreme for medicines. the L ingam or the Shiva idol, is a self originator , called S uyambu . This is white in color due to the belief that Kamadhenu (the fulfiller of all wishes), the Divine Cow is said to perform abiskhegam everyday by her milk. Hence, He is also called Pallvannanathar (meaning, the person with the color of milk) Lord Siva is said to have given relief to the the Sun and the Moon apart from sage Agastya . Due to this it is believed that Sun and Moon worship the Lord in the evening. The Lingam faces West rather than the traditional east in this temple. Due to this there is no Navagrahas (the nine planets) in this temple. The other shrines that are found here are Lord Nataraja , Thiagaraja and the Lordess T...
Thanks to Aravind who wanted me to write about the Temple at thiruvotriyur in chennai. that was one of those days when you get up early in morning and the whole world looks very frustrating and you dont know what to do. it became a God send message to me. So started my preparation to go the temple. I reside in the south chennai and the the Temple is at Thiruvotriyur in North Chennai. and the travel time will be more than 1.30 hours. So we started at 10.30 and reached around 11.45. The temple closes at 12 noon after the mid day pooja. What a divine visit it was. I came back so calm and filled with energy. This is a Shiva temple and the God is known as Tyagarajar, Adipureeswarar and Padampakka Nathar. The main deity is said be in the form of Lingam formed of Mud which is covered with Golden cover sheet. Once a year during Karthik Poornima, the Gold cover is removed and the necessary abishekam is performed and the once again the Lingam is covered with all the medicinal materials. His conc...

Now is the time for me to write about the very famous Hindu Temple - The Kapaleeshwarar temple This is one of it kind which attracts a lot of worshippers as well as tourists to Chennai - both Hindus and Non Hindus and is Mylapore, - a residential area very close to the sea shore. The original 8th century Shiva temple was built by the Pallavas and located on the shore but it was destroyed by the Portuguese and was re-built 300 years later. Almost all the Ancient temples are masterpieces of Civil Engineering, each one having some form of fame associated with it. The Temples becomes the center piece of action and all the four sides are named after the four directions. The temple entrances are always very grand and it is believed that the Gopuram, as the main entrance is called, should be the tallest and even if one sights the Gopuram, one is sure to get God/s blessings. True to form, the Gopuram is a very tall structure and contains lot of scenes from ancient lore depicting some stories o...
