Marundeeshwarar temple, Thiruvanmiyur
Here I come with one more temple from Chennai, especially from my locality. One of the famous Lord Shiva temples, it is an ancient temple, which is famous for the cure of diseases. The name of the Lord Shiva - Marundeeshwarar means that He is the Supreme for medicines. the Lingam or the Shiva idol, is a self originator, called Suyambu. This is white in color due to the belief that Kamadhenu (the fulfiller of all wishes), the Divine Cow is said to perform abiskhegam everyday by her milk. Hence, He is also called Pallvannanathar(meaning, the person with the color of milk) Lord Siva is said to have given relief to the the Sun and the Moon apart from sage Agastya. Due to this it is believed that Sun and Moon worship the Lord in the evening. The Lingam faces West rather than the traditional east in this temple. Due to this there is no Navagrahas(the nine planets) in this temple.
The other shrines that are found here are Lord Nataraja, Thiagaraja and the Lordess Thiruppurasundari apart from the shrines of his sons, Lord Ganapathi and Lord Subramanya. Lord Shiva in response to the prayers of Valmiki is said to have given darhsan to him in the form of Nataraja (the dancing form) here. It is believed that Thiruvanmiyur is the derivation from the name of Valmiki, the saint who wrote the Ramayana. There is a small shrine on the busy East Coast road, just a few yards from the Western Gate which is dedicated to Saint Valmiki.
May the Divine blessings be showered all the readers for a healthy life
