Giraffe at close quarters Nairobi

Image
Africa is full of all animals that we go to the zoo to see, of course running in the wild.  But indiscriminate poaching is making their number less and less in the world. In various African countries lots of conservationists are taking the cause of different animals and protecting and nurturing them in their natural habitats. We have Rhino sanctuary in Uganda, elephant Orphanage  and giraffe facility in Nairobi.  These are places where we can see these animals at close quarters.  We can touch elephants and in giraffe facility we can feed them too They have created raised wooden platforms where the giraffes come near and takes the feed  from your hand.  You see how long their tongue is  when they put it to grab the bite.  While you are focussed on taking photos they are focussed on taking out the bites. And the fallen down food bites are being eaten by the wild hog  which is at the ground level whose job becomes easy. It's another experience not to be missed too

A must visit for any traveler to East Africa is the Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage   which is engaged in rescuing orphaned baby Elephants and take care of them, nursing them,  performing surgeries if required. When the elephants become 4 years old they  are left back in wilderness.  Currently they have about 27 baby elephants.  Out of which is one blind Elephant which though much older it is being kept protected. Between 11 am to 12.00 noon the baby Elephants come to the designated place where bottles of milk ( human milk formula with other nutrients are added)  are given to them.  Then the ranger explains when and where was that particular baby rescued and what's its current age.  They come close to you enabling you to touch them  Thank you  David Sheldrick   the one Man whose service gas  helped this project to get established and has been carried on for the last 45 years in operating the most successful rescue and conservation efforts for the preservation of wild life through the

East Africa Tour diaries   Day 4 Checked out the hotel Speke Kampala at 6 20 am and drove down to Entebee Airport. A big Thank you for the hotel staff for ensuring that breakfast was ready for 48 of us as early as 5.50 am. As you enter the airport you have to get out of your vehicle leaving the baggage and go for security check. Reached the airport and did the baggage check and then airline check was done. Then immigration followed by check in completed the process and were ready for travel. Kenya Airlines is a fantastic airlines with very neatly maintained aircrafts and decent leg space..  The airlines staff are very friendly.   Nairobi airport is also well maintained and the immigration was swift and baggages were out even before we were out of immigration.  Nairobi is   the capital and largest city of Kenya. The name is derived from the Maasai phrase Enkare Nairobi, which translates to 'place of cool waters', a reference to the Nairobi River which flows through the c
