Raghunath Temple @ Jammu

Image
What a magnificent temple it is - The Raghunath Temple @ Jammu.   Though the main deity is Lord Rama and his parivar, it has all Gods Sannidhis too.  The priest takes time to explain about the temple depsite the crowd that is present there.  They also allow the devotees to take photographs of the murti, while prevent anyone taking selfies.  It is a huge temple with separate sannidhis for the Gods.   And the important thing is that it is believed that there is 1 crore Saligraman in this temple.   Room after room on the pathway there are thousands of saligramam in each room.   There is a a huge beautiful Spatike Lingam behind which is Nataraja idol.  So surprising to see the Statue of Nataraja in a North Indian temple.    This is in the main market area of the Jammu city and is easily accessable by car, auto, etc.  Despite the crowd, the temple being big, it becomes easy to have darhsan at every sannandhi. Bawe Wali Mata Temple or Maha kali temple Jammu

Image
One of the most Powerful temples in Jammu City is this Mahakali temple.  Our cab driver was citing an incident to narrative the Power of the Goddess.   During the 1971  war Pakistan war planes were going to target the bridge across the Tawi River which would mean that the city of Jammu would be totally cut off from rest of the country.   The city people prayed to Maa to save their city.  While the war planes were flying over  the city looking to bomb the bridges all they could see was only river water and no bridge but saw a lady in red saree walking with a lamp in her hand along the banks.  So it seems the planes flew back without targeting the city.   Hearing this we wanted to go and seek the blessings of Maa  Kali.   The temple is situated within the Bahu Fort and hence derives its name Bawe wali (meaning the resident of Bahu fort) Mata Temple.   The devotees are made to walk through  sho...

Image
Nau Devi Temple is really a powerful Temple tucked into a prinsitine  surroundings.  It is about 6 kms from katra.  This is also a cave temple. You need to go down about 100 steps to enter the tiny cave.  In some places you have to be  crawl on your fours to reach the sanctum sanctorum.   The Goddessess are in the form of 9 “pind” (stone murthis) which are incarnations of Goddess Durga namely  Shailaputri Devi,  Bharmachirini,  Chandraghanta,  Kushmanda,  Skanda mata,  Katyayani,  Maha Kali,  Maha Gauri Siddhidatri.   There are two caves here, one housing a Shiva Linga and the other the Nau Devis. #naudevitemplekatra #jammutemples #katratemples

Kol kondali Mandir @ Jammu

Image
On  the way to Katra from  Jammu is a small detour to this temple. Kol Kandoli Temple is situated in Nagrota city  at  distance of 14 km from Jammu. This temple is part of lot of folk lore.  Its believed that Mata Vaishno spent her early years here and the pind( the stone Pratima) is of a small girl.  The temple also has  Lord Ram's  Parivar,  Hanuman,  Shiva, sanieshwaran, kali Mata, Puri Jagannath.  The temple theerthan is supposed to have been brought out by Kol Mata herself to quench the thirst of Bheema.     It's a small temple with each sanandhi separately being maintained by one poojari.   Most surprising is to see the priest of Ram a and Saneeshwara temple being maintained by priests from Tamil Nadu here.  There was a sadhu from Thiruvanamalai who settled years ago in this place.  The whole temple is under the control of Army and he got the permission to build Ramar temple as well as...
