Marundeeshwarar temple, Thiruvanmiyur

Here I come with one more temple from Chennai, especially from my locality. One of the famous Lord Shiva temples, it is an ancient temple, which is famous for the cure of diseases. The name of the Lord Shiva - Marundeeshwarar means that He is the Supreme for medicines. the L ingam or the Shiva idol, is a self originator , called S uyambu . This is white in color due to the belief that Kamadhenu (the fulfiller of all wishes), the Divine Cow is said to perform abiskhegam everyday by her milk. Hence, He is also called Pallvannanathar (meaning, the person with the color of milk) Lord Siva is said to have given relief to the the Sun and the Moon apart from sage Agastya . Due to this it is believed that Sun and Moon worship the Lord in the evening. The Lingam faces West rather than the traditional east in this temple. Due to this there is no Navagrahas (the nine planets) in this temple. The other shrines that are found here are Lord Nataraja , Thiagaraja and the Lordess T

The sleeping Doll

The Sleeping Doll by Jeffery Deaver this book a thriller series, is well written. Though I have seen the movie version of his book "Bone Collector", this is the first time I had read this author's book and I found that he has a good story outline and writes very nicely keeping up the suspense till the end. By the way this book is written, I am making him one of my favourite authors and will try to read through all his other books. The whole book is about a maniac and master manipulator and how the California Bureau of Investigations agent Kathryn Dance goes after him. Every chapter keeps up the suspense and keeps the readers guessing. A very good book for a long journey where you will not be able to keep it down and so wouldn't even understand how the times flies. Happy reading

Rama Sethu

Recently I was in the book release function of the "Rama Sethu" by Dr Subramanian Swamy at Bridgewater Temple, New Jersey. Incidentally, my husband Ramani was honored at this function by being one of the few people who received the book from the author himself, for the small help he had done some group of people. (I will write a separate blog about this incident - how a small help which we do, serves a greater purpose for others) Some of the facts that become known to all those who gathered were Economic viability : The project, first thing is that is not economically viable (Dr Swamy has researched and found out that only ships below the 30,000 dead weight tonnage are only permitted to use this channel. As of now the percentage of such low weight ships are only 5% and in few years it is expected to come down drastically). so the number of ships eligible to go through the channel and which has the paying capability is very limited and hence the collectable payment is going t

Salary for the police personnel

Recently there was a news item in US newspaper that the salary for the policemen in New York is being raised. so what is great about this news item is the question anyone will ask. I was literally shocked to read through the item - you know why - it is not about the amount of raise (which is incidentally was only 10,000 $ per year) It is about the monthly salary that is being paid to these people - it is paltry sum of $ 25,000 per year, which works out to just US $ 2000 per month. You know what, our software engineers who get a job in US after having a minimum of 3-4 years get double that amount. Please dont immediately convert it into Indian rupees and say Oh my god what a salary - Just to give you a small break of expenses here Rent for a one room apartment - 1000 $ per month Food expenses - 500 $ Monthly travel expenses 100 $ Other incidentals - 400 $ So that is all that is there - what will they do for clothing, dinning out, etc. I am only assuming that they will get a rental

Key mandates for the Association

Our ITSME Associaiton by us and for us - We want it to be different. all the 7 EC members are of the firm opinion that we should not conduct the meeting once a month or twice a month just for the sake fo having to conduct a meeting. Also, as Entrepreneurs the thing which is close to our heart is the "growth of our compnay". so we want our assocaiton to focus on growth. all activities should necessarily orient itself towards growth of the organization either individually or collectively. So these are the key mandates we are going to work with for this year 1. Collective voice representing SMEs in IT Policy making. 2. Sharing Best Practices. 3. Human Resources augmentation among SMEs. 4. Technology/Industry training - Focus Groups. 5. Facilitating foreign delegations both Inbound and outbound, exhibitions thereby providing an effective platform for networking. 6. Potential joint Business Development platform – gaining access to geographies. 7. Improved Economies of Scale

A prisoner of Birth

Jeffrey Archer - one of my favorite Authors. More than Kane and Abel, I like his "Not a penny more, Not a penny Less". I would love to read his novels again and again and every time you read, it is a fresh experience, even though you know what the end is. Couple of weeks back, I took up the latest book - " A prisoner of Birth ". What a book it was. As usual it was so gripping that I could put the book down only after I finished it around 3.15 am in the morning. When I started, it looked ordinary, but as the pace picked up, the interest never waned ever for a second. It was gripping - You can never forget Danny Cartwright - the young fellow who is wrongly framed for the murder of his Best Friend and who is able to prove his innocence not just because of the best lawyer (the father and son duo court scene is excellent) , but because of the fact that one of the 4, who were the culprits and who undertake to make Danny the Murderer in order to save their Fri
Thanks to Aravind who wanted me to write about the Temple at thiruvotriyur in chennai. that was one of those days when you get up early in morning and the whole world looks very frustrating and you dont know what to do. it became a God send message to me. So started my preparation to go the temple. I reside in the south chennai and the the Temple is at Thiruvotriyur in North Chennai. and the travel time will be more than 1.30 hours. So we started at 10.30 and reached around 11.45. The temple closes at 12 noon after the mid day pooja. What a divine visit it was. I came back so calm and filled with energy. This is a Shiva temple and the God is known as Tyagarajar, Adipureeswarar and Padampakka Nathar. The main deity is said be in the form of Lingam formed of Mud which is covered with Golden cover sheet. Once a year during Karthik Poornima, the Gold cover is removed and the necessary abishekam is performed and the once again the Lingam is covered with all the medicinal materials. His conc
