St thomas Church

India is a multicultural, multi religious country with a known power of tolerance and upholding of all religions. One of the best examples of this multi religious faith is the way the even the non Christians visiting and praying at various churches, including the very famous St. Thomas church situated on the beach front of the Chennai city. San Thome Basilica is a Roman Catholic cathedral in Santhome , in the city of Chennai. It was built in the 16 th century by Portuguese explorers, and rebuilt again with the status of a cathedral by the British in 1893. We get to see the the British version standing as a testimony to have man made edifices stands defying the mortality of the men who build them. It was designed in neo -Gothic style, favored by British architects in the late 19 th century. It is supposedly built atop the tomb of one of the twelve apostles of Jesus, St. Thomas. The apostle is believed to have preached in Chennai between 52 A.D. and 72 A.D., when he is said to have

If you dont take care of your customers, some one else will

Being in a service business, this dictum is something we cannot forget at all. Never for one moment can we take anybody for granted. I am writing this not with my office in mind, but as as customer what I expect from my service providers. This is about m airlines. I am a Gold card status member with Lufthansa and it is one of the airlines which has the excellent connections to all parts of US. It has been a decade of travelling for me and I have gone with various airlines. While the South Eastern airlines offer the Best in flight services, I have always gone with Lufthansa for the best connections. Their service is not a bad one, but not something that I can rave about. Some of the individuals give excellent service, while there are some people who just do their job. This time I flew Jet airways and Oh my god - what excellent service. First and foremost, the flat bed in the business class was so wonderful that I could relax throughout the journey. The individuals went out of t
While on travel, I saw this Hindi movie - under the section - motivational - Phir Melange meaning we will meet again. It really touched me to the core. the movie is about a young girl getting AIDS and how she is fighting for her survival in the society - to retain her job, etc. A very neat portrayal. As soon as the words AIDS is uttered, everybody thinks of amoral sex and the different connotations. the film is by Revathy and very nicely done. Heading an organization, if I come across such a news, what would be my reaction is the thought process I had because, her employer dismisses her because he feels that he cannot live with the thought of degradation in the morality. This film is a eye opener for me in the sense that it made me think of the other side and their reactions too. Probably I will be handling such a situation differently with more compassion is the conclusion I came to after seeing the movie. It also teaches how our thoughtless association leads to problems for ou

Dr Natarajan - The Indusrial Queens Maker

This was pending for a long time from me - to write about one of the Best persons in the world - who encourages Woman to Take up the mantle of Owner of their own Enterprise. That why I have named him the Industrial Queens Maker. How many woman entrepreneurs he would have helped in making - must be running in 5 figures already. do you know of anybody other than Dr Natarajan , who has gained a doctorate on his research paper on "Women Entrepreneurship". His work was his life. The post of Jt director, Tamil Nadu Industries Department in`charge of Women Entrepreneurship was the most apt post for him. You go to him with just one dream - Wanting to go out on your Own - He will make it happen - that is the truth about him. He not only used to counsel people about what kind of industry will suit them, but will also advice about the various methods in running it efficiently and also actively help them to get started. He even used to guide them about how to approach the fi

Tamil TV Serials

When you have elders living with you, your house is always filled with sound - I am not meaning the talking among the family members - I mean the TV Sound. In earlier days, the old people used to go out everyday to some temple or have other kind of social engagement, but now their time is well occupied by watching TV. I have my mother in law who is 80+ who is living with us. What a treasure Trove of knowledge she is. She knows anything and everything under the sun. But nowadays it has become an addiction for her to watch TV serials all the time. What a best channel surfer she is - she watches 2/3 serials at the same time in different channels. I dont know how can she is able to follow all the serials without getting confused. In our house, the switching on of the TV starts from the early morning - which is filled with lot of divine things in terms of Temple visits or Rendition of various Songs on Gods/Goddess or other discourses. But at 1030 am starts her office schedule - One

Ads that I liked

Recently there are 2 ads that I liked very much - one was touching the core of my emotions, the other one was fun to watch I am talking about the Ad from Airtel - which states that "when you talk, the differences vanish". The scene unfolds with a small child having his breakfast in the first floor when he sees a basket ball rising upto the windows and falling down. Like all curious children, he goes outside into the backyard and checks and finds a basketball in his courtyard. He also hears a frantic yell from the other side of the fence - Another boy in a different language shouting some gibberish and at the same time showing a sign of kicking the ball back. (yes, it is a another country separated by two fences and in between the no man's land) This boy does kick the ball back and gets a smile filled action asking him to come over. Both the boys cross over their respective countrys' fences and start their playing together. For children where is the border,

my opinion counts

I am starting out a new series - I want and wish that I could write daily, but let me see - with all my schedules and travels this is going to be a daunting task. I would like to write about things that are affecting me right from the environment to the people ie, I want to write anything and everything that is affecting me. In my blog, I am very deliberately not writing about things that relate to my professional life including description about my company as I want this to be a Personal blog a reflection about my as an individual and not as a Company head. I dont know about the future, but let me try to keep this going as far as possible. So happy reading and if you, as a reader, disagree with me, lets debate it out. It would be fun

Kapaleeshwarar Temple

Now is the time for me to write about the very famous Hindu Temple - The Kapaleeshwarar temple This is one of it kind which attracts a lot of worshippers as well as tourists to Chennai - both Hindus and Non Hindus and is Mylapore, - a residential area very close to the sea shore. The original 8th century Shiva temple was built by the Pallavas and located on the shore but it was destroyed by the Portuguese and was re-built 300 years later. Almost all the Ancient temples are masterpieces of Civil Engineering, each one having some form of fame associated with it. The Temples becomes the center piece of action and all the four sides are named after the four directions. The temple entrances are always very grand and it is believed that the Gopuram, as the main entrance is called, should be the tallest and even if one sights the Gopuram, one is sure to get God/s blessings. True to form, the Gopuram is a very tall structure and contains lot of scenes from ancient lore depicting some stories o
