The lady with a School
Like the Nightingale of the old world fighting for the patients, here is a lady who fights for the educational privilege of the underprivilged. Ms Nimmu Vasanth Kumar. What a way she has come through. But for her grit and determination, anybody else in her place would have folded up and gone the easy route, let alone think of doing any social service.
One of the few enginnering Graduates way back in 1979, if only she had continued with her role in the Software Industry, we would be talking of her as one who would have broken the "Glass ceiling". But not a bed of roses did she want to tread on. Tending to a husband with ‘Paranoid Schizophrenia", she not only gave up on a great career and accomplishments, she chose to go way out to help her husband in the times of need. She went into the film making, which was her husband's field, thereby supporting her husband's recovery. My God what a struggle it would have been for the couple. Not only does she openly talk about his condition, thereby brining down the stigma attached with it, she does much more uniting people, caring for people and doing a lot of education for others.
Not just stopping with this, this is a different kind of a lady I am speaking about remember, she took up the cause of the underprivileged in waging wars for them in terms of retaining their prime lung space being urusped by illegal occupation. Then started running a school "Vidya Nivas" in Kottturpuram just under the bridge, where a lot of cars zip up. You should see the children - what a talent they have and what enthusiasm they have and for the kind of background they come from, it is remarkable.
For many, running schools are a profitable business model, but not for this woman of substance. It is day and day out struggle, with fighting to retain the space, living with illegal demolition of the just constructed pucca building (which was raised out the money got by pledging her house)and continuing to run the school against all odds. Even today, the finacial struggle is to so great, I dont know how she manages to keep her cool. The people who read this blog, help her in whatever manner you can. Anything and everything will help her to sustain her good activities.
Nimmu, I salute you, The world is still going round its axis because of such noble deeds of the unsung heroes like you. I am proud to be a friend of yours.
