Umaid Bhawan Museum A palace that was built to ensure that the people are getting engaged and get paid  during famine time by the King Maharaj Umaid Singh.  As a Polo player visiting London he knew to get the best man to design His palace and got Architect Leichester who had designed Westminister Abbey.  When asked about how big he wanted the palace to begin was supposed to have replied as big it can be   today its split into Kings private residence, a small portion as museum which has the wooden model prepared by the architect for approval and major portion as the hotel.  The palace has more than 300 plus rooms and in those days they had engaged 2 servants whose only job was to key the wall clocks in each of these rooms  Umaid Bhawan Palace , located in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, India, is one of the world's largest private residences.   Rajasthan Tour Dairies Day 2 contd The Jaswant Thada is a cenotaph located in Jodhpur, in the Indian state of Rajasthan. It was built by Maharaja Sardar Singh of Jodhpur State in 1899 in memory of his father, Maharaja Jaswant Singh II,  and serves as the cremation ground for the royal Rajput family of Marwar. Very close to the fort like Taj Mahal visible from the Red this memorial was built by a  son to his father the guide was saying that few of Queen' s jewels were sold and used to build it. The cenotaph is built out of intricately carved sheets of   Makrana marble . These sheets are extremely thin and polished so that they emit a warm glow when illuminated by the Sun.   The cenotaph's grounds feature carved   gazebos , a tiered garden, and a small lake. There are three other cenotaphs in the grounds. The cenotaph of Maharaja Jaswant Singh displays portraits of the rulers and Maharajas of Jodhpur.

  Rajasthan Tour Diaries Day 2 Today it is the day of city tour of Jodhpur.  Our first stop the Magnificent Mehrangarh Fort  meaning  Sun Fort as the Rathores who built this are ftom Kanauj UP and are Suryavanshis. It's an UNESCO site and the present Maharaja  Gaj Singh Rathore was crowned when he was very young and the seat of his coronation in marble in the  center courtyard of women quarters.   Mehrangarh Fort   Mehrangarh the Fort of Jodhpur crowns a rocky hill that rises 400 feet above the surrounding plain, and appears both to command and to meld with the landscape. One of the largest forts in Rajasthan, it contains some of the finest palaces and preserves in its museum many priceless relics of Indian courtly life.   For over five centuries Mehrangarh has been the headquarters of the senior branch of Rajput clan known as the Rathores. According to their bards, the ruling dynasty of this clan had at an earlier period controlled Kanauj (in what is known as Uttar Pradesh).
